Piazza di Spagna is located between the stairs of "Trinità dei
Monti" and the famous and fashionable Via Condotti. The
actual shape of the square has been outlined in the 16th century,
with the construction of the Franciscan church of "Trinità dei
Monti", that was consecrated in 1587 a.C. by Sisto V. When there
were enough money to realize the stairs, the connection between the
top of the hill and Piazza di Spagna was made by two pathways going
down the hill through the trees. The stairs of "Trinità dei
Monti" were realized between 1723 and 1726 a.C., becoming the
symbol of the city all around the world. Every year the stairs are
the stage of a famous international fashion show. The square takes
the name of "Piazza di Spagna" during the 17th century, when the
entire area was considered an area that belongs to the Spanish
Embassy. At the feet of Trinità dei Monti", Pietro Bernini
realized a fountain that makes the water flow from the shape of a
sunk boat: the "Fountain of the Barcaccia" that belongs to the
baroque period. On one side of the stairs is situated a museum on
the romantic English literature. This museum is inside a house in
which once lived the English poet John Keats, who died there on
1821
